Winter break: a time to refresh and think ahead

Winter break is an exciting time for students as they finish finals and return home to celebrate, rest, and reflect. Conversations about internship or job plans are likely to come up during holiday celebrations with family and friends. Although this topic can be stressful, it is never too early, or too late, to get started on career exploration and planning. It's important to provide positive support and meet students where they are in their career journey since it is truly a lifelong process.

Luckily, the Internship and Career Center (ICC) has a number of virtual and on-demand resources available should students feel inspired to spend part of winter break focusing on their internship or job search.

Hire Me! Academy (virtual) - December 19th and 20th

Students can attend all six sessions, or pick those most relevant in this series of virtual workshops offered over the span of two days. Topics include finding jobs and internships, writing resumes and cover letters, networking, and career exploration.

ICC Youtube Playlists

Our Youtube channel features a number of playlists with recorded workshops and informational videos curated by the ICC career advising team. Most are under 4 minutes long!

LinkedIn and Handshake Profile Checklists

Not only are LinkedIn and Handshake important professional branding tools, but students with completed Handshake profiles are five times more likely to be contacted by a recruiter. To make this process easier for students, our team created Handshake and LinkedIn Profile Checklists.

Virtual Career Advising

The ICC is open for virtual career advising most of the break. Students can check Handshake for available appointments.

We hope students will balance working on their career goals with some much deserved rest and relaxation this winter break so that they can come back to campus ready for a great 2024! Whether exploring summer internship options or simply learning about career opportunities we will be happy to see them at the career fairs in winter quarter!
