Rex Hime

By Ben Moroski ’10

Rex Hime is an advocate, professionally and privately. For nearly twenty-six years, he has worked as the president and CEO of California Business Properties Association (CBPA), which represents over 11,000 businesses in the commercial, industrial and retail real estate industries before California’s legislature and regulatory agencies. Rex also serves as the chair of the Greater Sacramento Valley Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and on the California Exposition & State Fair (Cal Expo) Board of Directors. He has also served on various state commissions.

But one of Rex’s biggest focuses in his advocacy and service is UC Davis, where he earned both a B.A. in political science (1969) and a J.D. from the School of Law (1972). “UC Davis was one of the most important places where I learned about life, the world and myself,” Rex says. “It is only right to give back.” And give back he has.

Rex was instrumental in the creation of both AggieAdvocates and the Sac Aggies Club. Additionally, he is a past vice president and president of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and, in 2007, was awarded the Jerry W. Fielder Memorial Award, an honor given to a UC Davis graduate who has provided extraordinary service to CAAA, the UC Davis Foundation and the university.

It is no wonder, given his track record of past service, that Rex is ecstatic about UC Davis’ potential and its benefits for students. “It is the best college that provides students with an education that will see them into the future,” he says, and he wants to ensure that those benefits remain open to future students despite the economic woes of the state and the UC system. “Now, more than ever, our campus needs our support,” Rex observes.

As UC Davis’ Alumni Regent, Rex continues to support and advocate for the university and its interests. Rex is a life member of CAAA and resides in Loomis with his wife Gwyn Bricker Hime, also a UC Davis graduate.
